So today marks the 15th anniversary of the release of the original Donkey Kong Country game on the SNES in the European region (interestingly enough, one of those rare (no pun intended) occasions where Europe gets a game before their American friends.
I tried to fit in as many characters as I could on the page; you can see the starring Kongs that feature in the game, as well as the animal buddies, and of course, King K.Rool. As well as a GIANT BANANA.
Originally, I was intending to colour this, but given the numerous hours spent just drawing it, I didn't want to run the risk of ruining the picture by applying ink and colour to it.
I don't think it's too silly; after all, it was a breakthrough game for its time!
Glad you like the picture, though - I was originally going to ink and colour it, but I didn't have the time to do so, therefore opted to darken the pencil lines and shade where appropriate (although scanning did murder it a little bit, sadly!). But it definitely worked in my favour. Glad you like my Expresso, and thanks for the favourite!
Wow, I love your style... You've captured the characters perfectly, and they look so adorable! Even without colour this is amazing, but if 'SabreWulf gives chase' [link] is anything to go by, you could turn this into an absolute masterpiece with a splash of colour.
Thank you very much, Qyzbud! Asides from Diddy, I've not really drawn the other Kongs more than once (maybe twice), and definitely never any of the animal buddies or K.Rool, so I was pleased with the outcome overall.
I did originally intend to add colour to this; the only problems I had with doing so were that firstly, I lacked the time to do so (since it took a lot longer than anticipated to draw), and secondly, the method I usually use for colouring (inking the image, and then scanning/printing a line art) is currently unavailable to me as I'm on an extended visit to the States (however, I may try inking and printing the scan in the future). I am however very flattered that you think so highly of my "SabreWulf Gives Chase" piece, as well as for the favourites and the watch you have given me; I hope that you enjoy my upcoming artworks! Thanks again!
Thanks very much, Bluie! I absolutely adore this game, as well as the next, and I will definitely try to do a DKC2 one when the anniversary rolls around!
Secondly, I'm hoping to be able to do the same next year for DKC2, so continue to watch this space!
It's DKC that I've always considered the beginning of the "new" era of videogaming! Is that silly or what?
This is really wonderful work. The darks and shades make everything contrast and stand out. It's BOLD. And I love how you drew Expresso!
